The Famous Dog Day Fundraiser event is dedicated to raising awareness and funds to help support Tanamera Rescue. You can learn more by visiting and joining their FaceBook Page - https://www.facebook.com/tanamerarescue/

The day will include a historical presentation (lecture and slideshow) about Spain's history of dogs and its most famous dogs in art history. There will also be a professional pet portrait photographer, a professional pet portrait painter plus other invited artist with gifts for sale cake and coffee with all proceeds in support of the fundraiser.

The event will take place at the business location of Benitachell Properties, which is at the main traffic lights on the corner - opposite the banks. There is plenty of free parking all around the area.

This fundraiser event will feature a unique presentation by arts historian Karla Darocas, Hon.B.A.,  showcasing Spain's Most Famous Dogs that have been immortalized in the artworks of Spain's greatest master artists from antiquity through to the great Spanish Masters like Francisco Ribalta, José de Ribera, Diego Velázquez, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Claudio Coello,  Francisco de Goya, Carlos Luis de Ribera, Andrés Parladé, Joaquín Sorolla and Pablo Picasso.

The content will start with a explanation about the history of dogs in Spain, the breeds and their purpose within the many and different civilizations who have made the Iberian peninsula their home.

In the artistic realm, the popularity of the dog image started to grow during the Renaissance when symbolically the dog added an expression or a connotation to the narrative of a painting. The presence of a dog in a painting communicated something of value to the many cultures who had different languages and dialects found in Spain.

This lecture will also touch on the keys to understanding the history of animal cruelty and why it started and why it still exists today.
