Cumbre del Sol
& the Area
Cumbre del Sol is one of the most
picturesque locations on the Costa Blanca. It is also one of the
largest and most modern urbanisations on the Costa Blanca. Cumbre
del Sol was built on the idea that nothing must get in the way of
the
spectacular sea and
coastline views, hence there are no ugly electricity nor
telephone polls and wires blocking the views.
Cumbre del Sol is situated on the south
face of the Cabo de la Nou: a cape that is surrounded on three sides
by water. This means that residents and holiday makers enjoy
brilliantly coloured
sunrises
and
sexy sunsets over the blue allure of the Mediterranean sea.
Cumbre del Sol has its own
micro-climate. Because of its situation, it has flora and fauna that
you cannot find anywhere else. In the winter, the south winds come
up from Africa and warm up the coastline, while in the summer the
swirling sea breezes mix with the mountain air creating a refreshing
experience. The oxygen levels are so clean and pure on Cumbre del
Sol because of the unique circulation of air.
Cumbre del Sol has its own incredible
natural cove beach called
Moraig that boasts one of the most famous caves that
is the entrance to the largest subterranean river in the Iberian
peninsula.
The Phoenicians who landed here and settled Denia and Calpe back in
1000 B.C., knew this cave as the mouth of a fresh water river and
came to draw their water supply. Of course, the world sea levels
were about 3 meters lower then. Today, divers come from all over the
world to explore
Moraig's underwater labyrinth.
Cumbre del Sol boarders on the natural park reserve called the
Granadella. This park is great for hikers, mountain bikers,
photographers and nature lovers.
Walking in the park early in the mornings
means that you will see the most impressive dramatic skies.
It also has its own beach and is a
popular spot for divers. Recently,
Bruce Willis was took a shine to this natural cove and decided
to make his latest movie here.
The Cold Light of Day, starring Bruce Willis, Sigourney Weaver,
Emma Hamilton and Henry Cavill was filmed all over the area from
Cumbre del Sol, Moraira, and Javea. The film tells
the story of a young American who
uncovers a conspiracy during his attempt to save his family who were
kidnapped during their Spanish holiday.
Cumbre del Sol is right in the middle of
the most popular holiday hotspots on the Costa Blanca. To the
northwest is Javea, which is a quaint family holiday town and
beach resort. It is backed by a historically famous mountain
called
Montgo. The early settlers called it the sleeping elephant and
when you see it from Cumbre del Sol, you can make out the form of
the elephant with its head and trunk facing out to sea.
February is a wonderful month for
colour and
almond blossoms. The skies are blue and the road side
fields are pink and white.
Javea is a old
historical village next door to Cumbre del Sol. It is a British
enclave and foreigners out number the locals for most of the year.
Javea has some great walking trails
along its coastline including
La Creu del Portixol or the Cross of Portixol, which is
not only a Mirador or Lookout but it also marks the entrance
to a hiking trail along Cape Prim.
It sports its own golf course,
which is closer to Cumber del Sol than to Javea. It has 9 holes,
tennis, swimming pool and
fish and turtle pond. The coffee shop and restaurant are also
top notch.
And to the southeast is the fishing port
of Moraira, known as the playground of the rich and famous who relax
and unwind on the beaches. Moraira is also a fun holiday resort town
with a great harbour.
There is
always something to see and do in Moraira.
Visit the harbour in the mornings and see all the yachts
setting out for a cruise or sail.
The village
has both affordable and posh bars and restaurants. There are
two beaches - L'Ampolla
and
El Portet - and one lagoon that is the home to
herons, ducks and other fun creatures.
For a taste of a real Spanish village,
Teulada is a 5 minute drive from Cumbre del Sol. Teulada has an
annual Medieval Fair.
For fun, weekends means flee markets -
or
"rastros"
and they showcase a wide range of articles for sale
from antiques to just junk. While searching through the stuff on
sale, it is fun to observe the gypsies who are the kings of these
markets :)
There is another medieval town only a
short drive from Cumbre del Sol called Denia. Every European
and Arab civilization through out history has had a go at
colonizing this port town.
This is a great town to witness the
annual
Fallas Festival. A chance to get up close to all the
action and see what the festival is really about.
For thrills, a trip to Benidorm's Terra
Mitica theme park is in order. No matter what the age,
everyone will enjoy the atmosphere and rides, food and fun
at this famous holiday hot spot.
