Under cloudy skies, this years St Anthony's Day was filled with beautiful horses and
funny ponies pulling all types of buggies and wagons. I captured
these photos in the port of Javea.
Since the Middle ages, St. Anthony has been acknowledged as the
Patron Saint of all domestic animals. Held on the 17th of January
2010, processions and the blessings of animals that take place
throughout Spain.
The tradition is that the Catholic churches bless the livestock and
crops of the local community. Nowadays however, this tradition is
more an excuse for a party than a religious act.
