This lecture and slide show will not only explore the dynamics of early 20th century European and Mexican art, but also illuminate the life of Frida Kahlo and her artworks as gifts of expressive, visionary self-interpretation.
Frida Kahlo made her own face famous by painting a seemingly endless series of self-portraits that spanned her 30-year career. All of her works showed a strong sense of pride in her heritage that ran counter to traditional European art schools. She also had a very real, if not obsessive, passion for her marriage and husband, who did not follow the bourgeois and Catholic traditions of monogamous relationships
Frida was an artist who truly understood the human spirit and its ability to rise above pain, suffering and disappointment in order to share in the precious essence of life.
This is a very sad experience, so be warned!
